How many times have you heard the following in terms of romantic relationships…
- “That’s my better half.”
- “You complete me.”
To a single person it sounds like they are missing something. The world says you’re not complete or whole until you find that special someone. Unfortunately, a lot of your friends and family agree and for some singles that can be a depressing thought.
It’s time to take a different look at this assumption. Do you want to find someone who is half or part of a person, or do you want someone who is complete – a whole person in every way? If the answer is yes, then the first place to start is with yourself. Do you want to keep living as half a person or do you want to be everything you can be?
In today’s world there are many examples of single people living half a life and you probably know a few. Maybe you are one of those single half-lifers with thoughts such as “my life will be better if only I had someone to help me”, or “I’ll just wait until God sends me the right person so that I can get married and then I will do it.” The problem with this type of life is that you may be waiting a lifetime for someone to turn up. Before you know it your time has come to end and you haven’t lived the life you wanted to, you find out instead that you have wasted it.
The time has come to stop living a life of “I wish I had a husband so that I can be complete”. God gives us his answer on what He wants us to be…
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. – James 1:4 (NIV)
so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:17 (HCSB)
God doesn’t want people who are incomplete, He want us to be complete and whole. There’s no need to live half a life waiting for your better half. You can have a whole life now with God as the centre.
All you need to do is be open to the things He has for you and to take hold of the future He has for you. When you realise you don’t need that special someone to make you whole and complete and that you only need God then your life will never lack anything.
