Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. – Romans 13:11 (ESV)
You’ve spent years wandering around in the wilderness. You know you were meant to do more on this earth than what you are currently doing or have done in the past. Maybe there were times you knew but then you were side-tracked or distracted from what that was. At other times you could have tried to work out what it was only to be discouraged in the process.
Right from the time we were conceived God placed potential in you. He had already worked out the plan for your life, but it somehow got lost in life itself. There are so many factors that influence what and who we become. We develop both positive and negative influences that either help or prevent us from knowing our potential. The most important thing that might be preventing us from finding our potential is our lack of faith in God.
Some of you may be thinking “What about those who have no faith in God? They have found their potential and have succeeded.” Yes, that may be true but are they truly using their potential in the way God originally wanted them to or are they using it for something else?
The ultimate aim of the potential God has given us is for His glorification and not our own or the world’s. God wants us to use our potential to further His kingdom and help those who don’t know Him find their way. If you don’t know what your potential, then now is the time to start looking for it.
Inside every one of us, God has placed a desire, a yearning for something more than just a husband or a wife. If finding a husband or wife was our primary purpose in life, then what happens when we don’t? Spending too much of our lives focussed on things that distract us from our potential could lead us to missing out on it altogether.
It is true that finding a husband or wife can be important to some people but after you get married, what then? You still need to find out what your purpose in life is. Putting your life on hold while you find a potential marriage partner only robs you of the time you could have been using your potential. In fact, anything that takes precedence over the life God originally planned for you can be seen as a loss. It’s time to wake up and start living the life you were meant to.
So, how do you find out what God’s potential is for you? Prayer is the most important thing you can do. God will answer your prayer by directing you to your potential. If you are on the wrong track, then God will put up stumbling blocks to discourage you as He leads to the place, He wants you to be. When you are on the right track you will have the encouragement and support you need from others as well as the opportunities to confirm this.
Finding your potential won’t be easy and you may take a few wrong turns here and there but if you remember to give God all your hopes and desires then you will truly find the live you were meant to have.
