And without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. – Hebrews 11:6
How many have you heard or read this from somebody who is an atheist…”if God is real then why doesn’t he do this or that” or something similar?
Those who don’t believe aren’t really seeing the things God is doing. They expect him show up like some wizard or magician, wave his magic wand and everything will be good. When God doesn’t show up or do what they think he should do, it adds more fuel to their view that he’s not real. An unconscious decision is made to keep believing in nothing instead of believing in someone.
In this type of situation those who don’t believe in God want to see proof that he exists before they believe he does. The problem with this is that God can’t do anything for you if you don’t believe in Him. You have to have the faith (even if it is as small as mustard seed) needed to believe in Him and to know that he does exist. Once you have acknowledged that you do believe, you will see Him at work in your life and in the lives of others.
Believing in God takes more than just a wish to have proof of his existence. It is a matter of opening your mind, heart, and eyes to the fact that God does exist, and He is working for those who believe in Him. He may not be doing the things you want him to do but He is doing things that will benefit you in the long run. The non-believer keeps looking for physical proof while the believer finds spiritual proof.
Finding spiritual proof is all that we ever really need to do. Once we know that God exists, we really don’t need to see the physical evidence that he does. Seeing God work in our lives is the added bonus and we see it because He wants to reward us. Our faith and belief in Him before he does something pleases God greatly.
Having faith in someone you can’t see is something some people have trouble with. It takes a step of faith to believe and if they aren’t willing then they will continue to question whether God exists or not. Their minds will stay closed to the possibilities and they will miss something that is greater than a “give me” attitude or relationship.
A relationship with God is a two-way street. You can’t expect God to keep giving while you just take and take – you have to do something in return. The something you have to do in return is one simple thing…just believe in Him.
